Initially I set out to write a short account of Maria Theresia to commemorate the tricentennial of her birth in 1717. It was to be a short timeline of information and basic knowledge acquired whilst working in Schönbrunn Palace, Maria Theresia's summer residence in Vienna for nearly four decades.

The knowledge that I have gained over the years does not count as a qualification in history.

My aim was to give the reader the chance to appreciate the importance of Maria Theresia, one of the greatest monarchs in Austrian history, and her place and influence in the history of Austria.

My hope is that my site will not only provide a quick reference to this period of Austrian history, but will also give its readers an association with events that took place during those bygone glory days of the Habsburgs, and out of this will come a renewed interest in history.
